With the right media designed for 1X it will burn it fine.
If you can'd find CDs rated for 1 X then use the audio blank CDs ( a couple of cents more expensive) as they are designed to be burned at 1X in a stand alone CD burner.
Hope this helps...

What Thomas said. CD-R audio discs are still rated at 1x and have 1/4 the error rate of current CD-R's, at least with my clover tester. I have noticed a dramatic change in media in the last 2 months except for the CD-R audio discs. I think they are a little more expensive than a couple of cents but even if they are double the cost, it's worth it.

My current burner burnes them at 1X just fine but I'd like to have a back up burner. The one I have is bound do die at some point. I have bought a few burners over the past few months for my wife and son, but they won't even give the option to burn at 1X.
What is the going price for the Plextor Premium? Best I could find was $82.

I use Wavelab and certain CD burners will not burn a 1 X but I am told this is a problem with the company that makes the drivers for the burning. (VOB)
Good price for the Plextor. You won't be sorry.

Plextor Premium. I just replaced an older burner with one of these and its really nice. From the research I've done on the forums, this is the model with the highest recommendations.
