I've got a Millennia STT1 and have been trying the Avalon 737 as a second preamp. I only record vocals and acoustic guitars (mics: Brauner Valvet and Neumann TLM 103). But the 737 gets bashed quite a bit in most forums. Next to the Millennia it pales a bit on all fronts (preamp, eq, certainly comp) and it also does not provide sufficient variation I think. But I do like the tube sheen the 737 gives on vocals (more pronounced than the tube topology of the Millennia). So given all these facts, what would you think to be a good second preamp.
Cheers, Bob. :)

If you really want the "tube" sound, go with the UA 6176. Great
If you really want the "tube" sound, go with the UA 6176. Great tube pre and the 1176 comp is killer. I've also heard good things about the LA-610, but I've not tested it myself.
The API 7600 is also great with a better EQ. It's solid state but with good Color.
The Manley Voxbox is also highly recomended tube unit, but again it's something I have no personal experience with.
I just got a 2 channel Great River from "little dog audio" I lik
