Gary (Opus),
There was a thread about this in one of the other forums and Bill Roberts refered the question to you. It doesn't look like the post ever made it down here, so I decided to bring it up. I think I read somewhere that you work or have worked for Apogee. What do you think about the mini me? Sound, stability, friendliness, etc... Would you get one to use as the front for your DAW?
Thanks,
Mitchell

Hi Opus,
Is the 24/96 only available using the AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital outputs? How would I hook that up to my ANUS...LOL :D Seriously, though, how do you hook up using those outputs. I'm sure I could get by just fine with 24/48, but if it's got the power I'd like to take advantage of it.
Thanks,
Mitchell

OK, I'm a dum bass. The AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital outputs are for sync, right. So, even though it supports 96k you can't use it for more than 48k w/out dithering the output. Is this correct, or am I just lost? Can you tell I'm still struggling to grasp all this digital stuff?
Thanks
M

No, the AES and SPDIF can both send 24/96 out of both connections at the same time. You can also use either one for sync as well. Basically when doing anything higher than 48Khz(88.2 or 96Khz) you need to record at 24bit as there is no such thing as a 96Khz 16bit recorder! It don't exist!
So...you can do 48 and 44.1 at 24 bit or 16 bit..simply dial in the desired setting and voilla! Now, here's the cool part..even though the front panel may be set to 24/96...USB can be at any sample rate/bit depth you so desire. USB has SRC(sample Rate Conversion) on it. so you can be recording 24/96 out of the AES or SPDIF ports and recordin 44.1/16bit through USB! Way cool aint it?!!! :D
If you had a digital audio card, such as the RME or Delta 1010 you could send 24/96 through SPDIF! If you had the Lynx 22 card...you could send 24/96 into the AES...get it?!
Any more questions?

Hey Mitchell
Yes, I work for Apogee as their technical support staff. The Mini-Me is a great sounding mic pre. Very transparent with a slight(and I mean slight coloration...but a good color to it) The clock is super stable. Obviously 24/96 can not be done through USB but it is something we are looking to do very soon. When the ETA is on that I can not say.
As a front end it's very nice.
Any specific questions on it?
