My pride and joy (U87 w/ Klause Heynes mod) is distorting any time it's being pushed with loud vocals. I've tried different pre's, cables, and other mics and everything is pointing to my Neumann. (my other mics sound great) Is there a certain way I should try the switches / configuration on the U87. Right now both switches on the back of the mic are "Open". Not sure... Any help would be great. -matt

Ms. Remy Ann David
I tried the "-10 db" and it made it much better but not to par. Should I take off the "cutoff" (opposite of the -10) switch or leave it open.
Thanx, matt

There is no way you can distort singing in a microphone unless the input gain is set on "very loud". It could be a problem with the mic itself. Set the gain of the preamp lower and see if it helps. The switches in the back modify the sound, not the gain into it.
Hope this helps.
