Sony makes some very popular "pro"headphones...yours aren't them. Look at the 7506...pretty tough for mixing $100. 8-)

Here is the deal. Every headphone has a different efficiency level. Some play louder with less power some play softer with more power. For a battery-operated Walkman, you want the most efficient headphones. That way you will have an adequate listening level. For the studio, you will probably be plugged into an amplifier with at least a few watts of power and will blow away any battery-operated gizmo you have. What you need to do is take your little battery operated thing with you and figure out which pair of headphones sound good and play the loudest. Whatever you choose will be fine in the studio. Now wasn't that simple?

I don't want to flog a dead horse, but... NOT TRUE!!! #1)you haven't taken into account the load that the phones will present to the amplifier...that is a HUGE issue in professional audio, and there are still issues between the manufacturers as to what a "standard" should be. The wrong load will totally negate whatever efficiency level the phones have..a 600-ohm set of phones will perform totally differently when plugged into a jack designed for 64-ohm phones!!!
#2) Consumer phones are, on the whole, designed for hyped low- and top-end response, and this will "fool you" into thinking that the mix is "right"...
#3) Ruggedness and serviceability...Pro phones are built tougher to take the abuse and if something breaks, they can, in many cases, be repaired, not tossed out for another new pair from Best Buy.
This VanillaIce dude is in dire need for help. The poor guy has been conned too many times by bad information from a BS sales rep. We don't need to fuel the fire...PEACE!

But all of the headphones I pick say studio monitor so they are really pro headphones you know. I can say my Edirol MA-10D sounds really good too for the price and I love them. :)
