Disc Makers is a duplication house. Thats there thing. Unless there has been recent changes they don't have "world class" mastering facilities.
I have several clients who use them for duplication. I honestly don't know anyone who uses them for the pre mastering processing part.
Have you heard anything mastered from there you liked?

It looks like they're giving the whole thing a good run for the money. They have good PR, good advertising, and even some good coverage in MIX, EQ and other mags. (SOMEONE is getting the word out). They were also at AES SF with a nice booth. They must be doing something right....

Since I'm about 20 minutes from their main plant in Pennsauken NJ (and I have at least two good friends working there), I wouldn't be able to speak without some personal bias.

As far as replication/duplication goes, I send all my larger projects over there; they have never burned me and always took good care of my projects. Of course, you have to pay attention to ALL the details, examine the proof copies they provide, and play by the rules of professional production. No short cuts, no funny stuff, and give them what they require to complete your order the way you want it. All the "complaints" I ever heard from others was due to bone-headed mistakes (on the client side) and not communicating properly, or failing to read the fine print.

They spent some $$ on their "new" mastering room, I believe, and I'm hoping to get a tour of it next time I stop in there (this week, probably) with an order to drop off. (I have no plans to have them master my stuff, though, FWIW.)

Different strokes for different folks. Some people don't know any better, and that's where they go for a no-nonsense, basic mastering job. You get what you pay for, IMHO.

Update on the Discmakers Mastering rooms:

Just saw the place in person, and it looks/sounds VERY nice. I didn't get to spend any time checking mixes or anything, but it's obviously a pro opertaion. The new room is very well laid out and sounds good. By all means, give them some consideration. There's a lot of places out there competing for your $$, and it's worth it to know your options. Depending on the project, they may or may not be right for you, but I'd certainly look into it.
