I'm shopping for standard black-tray jewel cases, and online sources are charging $25-$40 for shipping on a $25-$35 case (200 ct).
Anyone have a hot tip on where to buy bulk cases at a good price and not get screwed on shipping?

While there, check out their ink cartridge generic replacments. ASTOUNDING savings for replacement carts for all the big brands. I never buy Retail/OTC ink for my stuff. In bulk, they're stupid-crazy-cheap.
I'm on the East coast, (they're in CA) so I try to plan ahead when I order from them. I always get enough to qualify for the free shipping option, but it's slow - UPS Ground. If I order on a Monday, I usually get it by Thursday or Friday.
Good stuff.

I go through Uline. They offer the jewel cases in multiple pieces (seperate case and tray liner). The funny thing is, it's less expensive for them this way and it's cheaper to ship. Plus, it saves me from having to dismantle them to put the tray liner notes under it anyway.
I've had a few broken in shipment and they're always quick to replace them. Also, they ship wicked fast! If I order on a Tuesday, I have them on Wednesday. (They have regional warehouses to help fulfill orders quickly throughout the country.)

Oh yeah, you DEFINITELY want to get them unassambled. No point in wasting time taking them apart only to stuff them again later.
I'm near Discmakers right over the bridge in Pennsauken, NJ and have an account with them as well. I can either pickup jewel case supplies and CD blanks from them directly, or just have 'em shipped to me. Using UPS Ground, I can order before 4 p.m. and have them at my door by 11 a.m. the next day.

Thanks folks - good tips. I should look around town some more to see if there's a good source here. That would be nice.
I ended up buying from my usual source - ACCA recording products - they don't have them disassembled though - which does stick a bit. I have almost 200 in pieces from my last order - but popping the trays out gets easy after the first few.
I think I need to save up for my next order and buy a thousand or two to get a good price and free shipping - but then I have to find space to store them ...

I once saw a guy going through goodwill, picking up all of the old "Kris Kross" and "New Kids on the Block" CDs that people had dropped off and that they couldn't sell, and when I asked him, he said he only took the ones that still had good cases, he took the labels out from them, ran them through his dishwasher and used them for his own home releases. I giggled the entire drive home.

Sometimes Sam's Club or Costco has them, also if you are around a MicroCenter store they have them at good prices, Comp USA use to have them and I have seen them a time or two at Best Buy or Circuit City but not recently. On line I would try Polyline http://www.polylinecorp.com/category-three.asp?OPT=020&C=02001000&S=0200100001000&OPT2=0or The Little Warehouse http://www.thelittlewarehouse.com/. Most large retail computer stores have them but not at the best prices. Any local distrubutors in your area? A mom and pop operation? Look in the telephone book or on line for CD duplicators - most times they will sell you cases.
Best of luck!
