I was wondering if anyone has heard the demo CD for this mic.

I don't know what they were thinking with the shoot-outs between different mics.

The vocal shoot-out convinced me I wanted a U87.

The guitar section shows how wonderful the Sennhieser MKH series is.

The real-world recordings, on the other hand, show that the dpa 4060 can provide VERY impressive results. I have to admit that if these recordings were advertising a much more expensive mic, it would be a convincing argument for not buying anything only the most expensive. How nice that this cheap mic can give a nice taste of the DPA line. BTW I've heard others saying they have achieved very impressive results with the Audix TR-40 -which is even cheaper!

This leads me to one of my favourite gripes, which is the inadequacy of A/B tests. Surely you need to hear what each mic can do, which needs somebody who can bring out whatever magic the mic might have. How often is this going to be apparent when someone stands in front of a batch of mics, none of which is likely to shine under these circumstances? I think this is nowhere truer than on the dpa4060 CD.
