Hey guys, I just got an old Tascam ATR-60 tape machine. I'd like to get it run over head to toe by a professional before I start putting it to use. Anyone know of a good, professional tape machine repair guy in the DC/Baltimore/Philly/NYC area? I'll drive far to find a guy with a good reputation...

Also, I plan on using this hand in hand with my current Digi002 Rack Setup. Right now, I'm basically using the 002/Computer as a tape machine -- meaning i do basically everything on my A&H GS3 Console and then print my mixes back to the computer.

So, really what I want to do is split my I/0 between the console and the 002/ATR-60 so that I can record to either one or both even. Also, something I might want to do is lock my 002 and Pro Tools to a sync track on the ATR-60 and do some hybrid anolog/digital recording. At any rate, any tips/success stories/criticism/gear suggestions having anything to do with either of these setups would be much appreciated.

THANKS!

Ari

Give JRF Magnetics a try

Using the analog machine with protools is definitely a good marriage. I usually like to use the tape machine for drums, bass and guitars....aw hell ....on everything that'll fit! You just got to be mindful of your clock source and positional reference in protools...... the wrong combo will definitely wreak havoc. If you have protools clock source set to LTC and positional reference to LTC you'll be golden, assuming of course that you have a usb or sync I/O.

Actaully just got my Otari MX5050 MKIII back from JRF yesterday. First off they do an excellent job, I learned alot from them, they have very good rates. Just to add the owner John French actaully designs and sells 2" 8 track, and 1" 2 track heads that can be fitted on existing Studers, Otaris and Ampeg machines. I actaully got to here a song that used the 2" 8 track, it was huge, and very dynamic with a nere digital signal to noise ratio. I recomend using JRF.
