Do you mean you will be clocking the 001 to the Dat player and still us its A/D converters or just to tranfer dat tapes into Pto Tools?

i will be using the clock of the dat for the digi and still using the converters on the digi...i have heard that the clock on the digi is not too stable.....so i thought the dat might have a better clock....what do you think?

It never hurts to try but I am doubtful that the clock on the DAT 1 would be any better than the one on the 001. If your really serious about this check into an Aardvark clock. Fats

Hey cedar, i think if i am going to get a clock i might as well get the converters at the same time.....lucid, alesis ai-3, frontier, or what about a dbx quantum....for the price of a clock, i would imagine i could get better sounding converters....any thoughts on the biggest bang for the buck out of those three...cheers mark

Well I am using the Frontier Dakota with 2 AI3's. It sounds very good to me. On paper these AI3's aren't as good as others but like I said they sound fine. It's cheap too. Lucid is supposed to be a very good converter. I am not very excited about the DBX and for no particular reason, it's just when you say DBX and "front end" to me in the same sentence, I just don't get excited.

ha, ha ,ahahahahahah....i think your right about that...had the dbx quantum for a week and it did nothing for me in anything...compression was kind of there but not like you could push, listen, pull back, attack-release shift for bottom and as a clock and ad i really couldn't hear it...looked kind of cool in front with the machine that goes bing"""" i think i might just get the ai-3 for the option to do 16 at once into the digi and such....i also didn't like the eq in the dbx it wasn't nearly precise enough...again, it was like ordering a giant cheeseburger with bacon, guacamole and free cut fries with mayonnaise and then ordering a light beer because i need to watch my figure...it sold a lot of sizzle on the table and then turned into a light beer.....oh well thanks for the input cedar flat ....interesting cedar for a front of house...are you in the northwest surrounded by beautiful tall woods and trees and things that people in the east can only imagine when they have their ruby slippers on and tap them three times together while pulling the tail on a small lap dog named after a studio band in LA who wrote a song about africa? cheers mark mark

If you just want to get a clock generator to slave all of your digital devices to check out the Aardvark Aardsync or the Rosendhal Nanosysnc, which are really good units for a reasonable price, though the 001 doesn't have a wordclock capability and your sync options will be tied to the Spdif or ADAT I/Os. If you need a device that can serve as A/D conversion and additional inputs check out the Focusrite Octopre, I just got one and I hook it up to my 001 via its ADAT card, the conversion is really better than that of the 001 (I did a comparision test a few days ago), and the sound is bright and pleasing (the musicians I'm working with right now are really happy with the sounds I got from it).

i have an ai3. it sounds fine. if you're happy with the 001 converters, you'll like the ai3.
