Anyone heard about this? I'm not plugging the website, but the concept is certainly worthwhile. (I don't plan on SHOUTING WITH ALL CAPS ALL DAY LONG, but I'll do what I can.

Is this not what music is really all about anyway ? Dynamics, what a concept! I will most certainly program a reminder on my cell, hopefully I will actually have time to participate some on that day.

We can voice our feelings about the current state of recording trends, that is the waveforms being overly compressed. Maybe what we do on dynamic range day will have little significance, I don't know. If you were to ask me, all I can do is try along with others to protest against the current trend that has been degrading the quality of music around the globe.
Overall we are up against a huge barrier. As it may or may not be the current state of DAW recording has presented the ITB/OTB argument in itself, and to me personally its obvious that when track counts increase so do the non-intentional effects of compression with ITB mixing, at least this is one way to look at part of the problem.
So, one of the points that I am trying to make, as I see it of course, is that as we stand in our current state of recording technology we have some work to do to get our compression under control and in check, which may or may not be embraced as a truth by the individual as a whole.
Back to the question, what can we do?
Answer: Voice your opinion on March 20!
This goes against my training...."Everything is louder than ever
This goes against my training...."Everything is louder than everything else"...............
If this was to actually have an effect, then there'll be this future conversation....One Old Guy, "Ahh member them days when everythin was so durn loud....." Other Old Guy " Huh???"

A friend of mine owns is "label" and we talked about that "loudness war"...
He's aware that everything sounds like crap but if he doesn't do as eveybody does it, he gets complains...
We thought about mastering CDs both ways (the right way and the "nowadays" way....) and then give both at the same time with a little booklet explaining wich is wich and why....
That would be (trying to educate) educating people, wouldn't it??? What do you think?

Never thought about that possibility... how about presenting the artist final masters with those two dynamic "loudness"! Or even three!? Starting with the loudest one and ending with the most dynamic and hamonic...
I do feel for many experienced years that loudness do suck...
Hope for better years and hey I'm going to try on my next mastering job that approach! Cheers for the idea!
