I just picked up a UAD-1e card for $130 CDn. I feel like a thief. These used to retail for about $450.00. Just thought I'd point it out since this is not exclusive to Canada. Front End Audio had these for $99 US but I missed that deal by an hour or so. They were sold out very quickly and I tried just after I received the email.

I'm thinking that UAD are dumping their inventory and giving retailers a bonus for pushing the newer UAD-2 cards. Smokin' deal if you can find one. This is the express pack which comes with a limited number of plugins but also comes with a US$100 voucher. So basically, I got the card for $30.

If you've got the pocket change, I'd go out and find one.

They have one card left at L&M. Just FYI.

I was sweating a bit when I did the install and UA meter didn't recognize the card. Fortunately someone at the forum pointed me in the right direction. Apparently the 3Gig switch which many PT users apply can mess things up.

According to the email I got from support, just having 4gigs of ram can cause problems.

The fix is simple. It requires editing the windows boot.ini file. I backed mine up just in case. At the end of the string add "Userva=2600" without the quotes. This reserves 2600 MB of (edit: I'm not exactly sure how this works. I think it probably reserves 2600mb for the system and frees the remainder for the UA card.) RAM for the UA card. You can play with the value from 2800 to 2400. I suppose you could try 3200 if you wanted but I like to stay within the bounds of "tried and working".

Anyhow it works like a dream now.

Good choice Hue ....

At my work, we have many UAD-1 cards in our custom PC tower which is running Cubase 4 and PTHD and on our Mac Pro Xeon quadcore which runs Logic Studio 8 and PTHD.

The UAD-2 cards are leading to bargains on the UAD-1. I would buy them at that price for home use in a flash, except I am now working solely on a laptop from home, and having purchased the Sonalksis essentials mkII bundle and other quality native based plugins. Not having a PCI-E slot on the computer and with the UAD expander firewire connection still being so expensive it's a no go. The Sonalksis SV517 mk II EQ and SV315 mk II compressor are very sweet though and I can do a heck of alot with them.

On UAD-1 I love the Pultech EQ, Neve 33609 compressor, LA2A, EMT140 plate reverb, Oxford Limiter, Neve 1073 and Fairchild 670 emulations in particular.

I can foresee a spending spree for sure. There's a few plugins that I have my eye on but I had to have the Little Labs IBP. I've wanted the hardware version for a while but for a C note, I'll take the plugin instead.

I was going to look at a Waves package before I bought this card but I don't know if my PC could handle the processing. It's no slug but those plugs can be pretty resource hungry after you start running a few instances.......okay. Alright. Truth be told, I'm a sucker for a good deal.
