Eeeeek! Touchy subject man. I know how you feel though. I get the sense that there is more noticeable headroom in PT as well. Not that Nuendo is bad by any means. There's certainly something I prefer about ProTools but I could not claim that it is anything other than hype as I don't want to invoke the wrath of the masses of Digi opposers. LOL

i actually switched the other way from PT to Cubase (same as Nuendo) and have never looked back. I knwo people say its all hype but I think somehow, somewhere in all those 0's and 1's in the proams must have a subjective affect on us.

ive had my time on both.

nuendo 3 if your running a good interface like a fire face 800, sounds better and can record you in 192. Then in ever way it is comparable to a pro tools hd setup, minus the cards.

you and i can make the same recording in either. i would take an le rig over nuendo pretty much any day.

What you are really noticing is not the DAW but the increased quality of the AD/DA converters of your interface. The software is much less of a factor if any.

I run Nuendo 3 with a cranesong ADC, I have spent a bunch on time on protools HD as well. I have to say I have not noticed what your suggesting. I prefer the Nuendo operating enviroment, but thats very subjective.

If you take a given mix and import it into PT and run it through an 003 and then import the same recorded tracks into a different DAW and run it through the 003 the DAW program itself is not going to change the sound.

If you record on a PT HD system and then compare that to a different mix or even the same mix through Nuendo or whatever and use completely different converters then you are comparing apples and oranges.

I have an 002 on the way after trading my tascam fw series interface for it.
It has been a sad day here at the studio saying goodbye to it just to run protools. I am a Cubase 4 user (built on Nuendo engine) , and after countless amounts of recording engiPeers suggesting i jump on the PT wagon, i gave in . If this is case in which PT seems to provide more headroom, it shall be a great move for my studio. What bafles me about this topic is that i went towards the nuendo sound engine first, due to its praise in quality as opposed to PT engine which some say gives more mid boost.

You can use Cubase with the 002 in addition to PT. You will find a step up from anything Tascam.

PT is just one DAW that I use, and not very often.

So true about 002 compatability with cubase. As of now, another benefit of two DAWs is compatability with other artist or "producers"
(In miami im not aware of many cubasers.) The thought of using another platform can scare off a few. People dont feel satisfied enough to just transfer wave files. they want it all in a pt format. But then again this is comming from a novice/intermediate POV
