any ideas and what brand of power bar if you call it that to get for the gear ?

rack type with lights? 8 X 120 volts in back, the proper name if it is escaping me, but just reallized i may need a couple of them

Furman is pretty popular... Monster makes some nice ones also.

I use a hybrid of power conditioning & line treatment with surge protection and then some simple, $30 8-switch (individual switches) bars designed for DJ lighting.

Maybe a combination will work for you - Especially if you have a lot of gear without power switches, or switches that are hard to get to.

Look for units that have well-spaced outlets on the back - "Wall warts" are horrible if the outlets aren't spaced out right...
