I don't think SoundForge does 5.1...

Any DAW can be used for 5.1. It's basically just 6 outputs. If you want most of you music to come out of the rear speakers, Assign the tracks to the rear speakers.

well you can rent a z-sys or a TC6000 and you might be good to go. Another thing you can try is running the mix through dolby prologic and let it do it's thing and see how it turns out. Sometimes with the right mix, it can give a semi cool surround effect. sometimes not.

What is your surround system hooked up to? Sound card?

The only thing like that I have heard of is known as the "Hafler Effect" ...

Take the (-) feed from one speaker, the (+) feed from the other and run them to a third rear speaker, or a pair of rear speakers..

In the case of a single speaker in the rear, hook the (+) to (+) and (-) to (-) ... if you have 2 rear speakers hook the (+) to the (+) of the first speaker and the (-) to the (-) of the second ... then hook the (-) of the first speaker to the(+) of the second ....

What you get is an extrapilation of "difference signal" in the rear speakers ... all the ambient info will eminate from these rear speakers ... Surround circa 1969!
