Anyone own a dynamic range controller? What do you use it for? Mastering and mixing? Printing tracks? How does a dynamic range controller compare with a compressor?
A compressor IS a "dynamic range controller". Pretty much any type of device that "automatically" responds to the dynamics of the program material and adjusts the level accordingly will be in that category. In fact, I often refer to my fingers on the fader as a "digital dynamic range control"!
