I had one of those when they first came out. It is NOT manufactured by Carvin, it is simply a generic LDC made in China. While it didn't really suck, it was not a great value, either. It suffers from the same over-hyped top end that other mics from that design era do, mainly due to a "resonator circuit" lopped onto the capsule. This design is pretty antiquated, but since Carvin apparently bought a ton of these duds (and keeps trying to move them by lowering their prices). In any case, I found mine to be overly harsh and sibilant, it had poor off-axis response (mushiness from the sides), the casting material the body was made from was soft and did not wear well from multiple plugging in/out the XLR connector. It ended up becoming very intermittent because of this and ended up at the bottom of the St. Johns River during an outdoor jazz gig.

Nowadays, you can find mics by Rode, Studio Projects, A-T, ADK, and Kel (to name a few) that will be a much better investment. Choose wisely....
