hello everyone. i'm building a daw from scratch. i'm going to have 2 hard drives (1 for os and apps, 1 for audio) and 1 CD burner. i will have the onboard ata 100 controller and a promise ata 133 controller. my hard drives will be on the promise ata 133 controller. my question is where should i put the burner? should it go all by itself on the primary onboard ata 100 controller or should it share the primary promise ata 133 controller with the hard drive? or, is there a better way to do it? thanks. more questions to follow.

First of all you will NOT gain anything by putting an ATA controller card on your PCI bus. In fact you will lose PCI bandwidth that way. Trust me...I've done the tests...
You want to leave the PCI bus totally alone for audio and possible DSP cards.
The best configuration is this...
OS and Application drive on primary with CDR/W as slave to it....
Secondary controller put two hard drives if needed. If you're going to get a drive get the Western Digital JB model drive...trust me...you won't regret getting one...they smoke performance wise!
