That sounds strange to me man. What MIDI interface or is it independent of a MIDI interface? Is it a USB device? If so what service pack are you running for Win2k? Have you tried a different USB port if so?

Is the other computer running the same service pack version?

Let's see if there is some difference between the two systems that may be causing this

I think that this is independant of the interface since I've tried disconnecting it just to play a midi file with the default Windows player with no luck. But just so you know I'm using an Emagic EMT4 and am running Win2K with SP2. My interface also has midi inputs (Delta 1010LT) but I honestly have not tried using them yet. As for the other computer, it's a workstation running Windows NT 4.00.1381.

Try updating to the latest service pack and or direct X...

Ya never know!

Hey lambchop , I think your problem lies within W2K. I was having the same issue with my motu MTP A/V. It would'nt show up in Cubase SX until I upgraded the OS. I upgraded to WinXP Pro and the problem was immediately resolved. But on the down side of things , I'm having problems transfering audio via digital I/O. I'm almost certain it's the OS. So for the time being and like Opus was saying , I'm looking into getting an upgrade/service patch for the OS. :)

Hmmm! I have to tell ya' that I had real problems a while back when I installed SP3 and only was able to correct it when I reinstalled the entire operating system in 'repair' mode. But, who knows! Maybe I should try it again. I'll let you know what happens.

Okay, I updated the operating system last night to SP4, the latest one, and here's the results.

In Cubase - the midi file runs and it is showing up on the output of the transport bar, but still no sound.

MasterTracks Pro still just freezes up and never loads. When I try to shut it down I receive a message about the sub16 system being unstable.

The Emagic MT4 midi interface seems to be operating okay by itself. I can access my Alesis Quadrasynth Plus' tone bank with my Roland RD700.

What do you think it can be?

Hey Lambchop , man I have to say that I somewhat see myself posting this article. I would just upgrade to XP and be done with it. I had the same issues as yours & they were fixed when I did my upgrade. I don't think Win2k is too multimedia friendly. And I have to also say that I was a little bias towards the XP upgrade thing. You won't regret it , trust me. :cool:

Sorry not to have posted an update sooner, but I was away at a music festival over the weekend.

Well, I think this is actually aCubase oriented problem. When I assigned the Microsoft internal midi mapper to the midi output in Cubase I was able to play the midi file with no problems. I won't be able to work on this further tonight (it's my Mom's b'day), so I'll let you know what happens when I do finally get to it.

Thanks for the suggestions, though. It definately helps you when you're trying to work out a problem. That's why I really love this place. The people here sincerely believe in helping out one another. So, in case I haven't already said it, thanks guys!

Hey, I just wanted everyone to know that I still have this problem but have not had the time to resolve it. I have a project I'm doing (need that $$$), so I just took an ancient 486 laptop that had my Mastertracks installed and my very old Key Electronics Serial midi interface and have been recording midi with that in the meantime. This seems to be Win2K related problem after all and when I finish this project I'll be looking to you guys for some suggestions.
