I seem to recall a thread a while back where somebody heard rumors that the P4 2.4B Northwood (533FSB) might support hyperthreading. For some reason I can't find the thread. Anybody know if this rumor is true? Thanks!

Well sounds like it's not for me. I'm going to order the chip today anyway with the P4PE mobo. Can upgrade the chip at a later date when those ridiculous prices come down!
I'm finally joining the club! My AMD machine is being retired to home use!!!

No, no chipset cooler is needed. If you want a cooling system for it go for the water cooled systems as that is completely noiseless. To be honest the stock fan is fine for the Intel CPU's. If you plan on doing some serious overclocking than you would want serious cooling. Stick with the default values and you're all set to go. I've done extensive Sandra burn in tests with the stock fan and an enermax PSU and the board did not get that hot at all!

Whether it's a myth or not I do not know, (or care at this point) I've been using this new machine for a few weeks now and it screams. The performance exceeds my current needs! Have not loaded it down heavily with VSTI's yet, but I know it will do a lot better than my old 1.1G Athlon.

Hyper threading is not a myth. Only the xeon processors with HT will slow you down. The P4's(Northwoods) are happily cruising along. The problem,"if" there was a problem, would be that there is no software to truly take advantage of it yet. In all actuality most DAW software IS multi-processor friendly so you won't lose any performance. If you read the specs on hyper threading and read some pretty informative articles(such as the latest issue of CPU) you would find that it's actually a good thing.
I do agree about hacking the BIOS as that's not easy in any way..nor would I recommend it.
If you're going to post why something is bad...provide us with information please. M'kay

Well, you need a BIOS hack to do this and it's not easy...so in the long run. No. Believe me...I was hoping that it would be easy. I'll go check out the VR Forums to see what the status is of the attempts. Haven't been there in a bit since I found out from my good source that it can't happen unless you know BIOS engineering and software writing.
