hello.
i got some vocal tracks which are a bit distorted on the louder parts. mostly only slight distortion, sometimes a bit more.
it's no digital clipping. the engineer told me it's because the singer was too close to the mic, so it seems the preamp clipped.
is there a way to "repair" the tracks, cause redoing them is no option.
i've tried to filter out the harsh frequencies and put a little chorus on the track and it helped a bit. is there another way to at least make the distortion less audible in the mix?
sugggestions are very appreciated!
thanks.

Well.. is the same engineer who recorded the takes ??? very bad.

Short transients that clip can easily be repaired by redrawing the peak in the sequencer, constant distortion gets tricky, but I have on ocaasion redrawn such segments too, withought any audible artifacts... What platform do u work on ?

the distortion is constant. mostly in the louder parts like the refrain. the file itself isn't clipping, it sounds more like an overdriven tube, or something. maybe i'll put more distortion on it, so it sounds like on purpose. luckily it's only on one or two songs.
what do you use to redraw the transients?

I would not know how it is done in Logic.
In Nuendo/Cubase, you open the clip in the sample editor and can use the draw tool there to redraw waveforms. In PT you can do it within the edit window itself. If the engineer screwed up, it's his responsibility to compensate with free studio time for the job. Unless ofcource the tallent is no longer available.

the problem with re-recording isn't the engineer. the singer would have to fly over from greece.
anyway, thanks. i'm gonna check it out in logic.
