We’ve been critiquing songs and discussing recording and mixing processes around here for years.
If you are recording using microphones,  engineers here will take you more seriously, which will attract more attention to your work.

If you songs are all programmed, most of us won’t bother critiquing. 
If you are only posting to get more traffic… you are best to find another place. That’s it in a nutshell.

After listening to multiple posts on here, I think I am out of my league here. There are so many amazing productions posted and I am basically just a singer/songwriter with a guitar, microphone and a computer.

I have a lot to learn and I am enjoying what I am hearing on here.

Fwiw… We all start out one note at a time. Many of us (I certainly speak for myself) feel we can do better but never give up on the things we want to do well on.

The performance is really the most important part. Recording equipment, software etc comes second.

I agree, I just dont know really anything when it comes to production stuff. I just enjoy writing songs and singing.

I play guitar and mess around with piano. I enjoy singing, but I have no technical fundamentals or training. I am interested in learning how to produce music / mixing etc.

I only started writing songs about 6 years ago when my Dad (who was a natural musician) passed away, with large gaps of time in between since then.

The snag is that's a HUGE question. I suppose the most important question is "what for" - if the idea is to release it to the public the answer is different than if it's for an archive, or to give to your gran?

Our next questions will then be - what kind of song is it? Somebody who sings and strums a guitar can be quite simple - maybe a small zoom/Tascam recorder and a couple of mics. If it's a piano, it gets a bit harder, and the room you intend recording in starts to get more important. Your choice of Mac or PC is important too. Most people don't record on recorders like Zooms and Tascam, they plug their guitars, keys and mics into an interface that connects to the computer and the DAW software does the work - DAW software runs from free to hundreds of pounds. Most people start with something like Reaper, and go upmarket when they need to. All this needs serious effort and some expense if the result is to sound like commercial releases, and that is what most people strive for. Let us have some decent info and we'll help if we can.

If you are really a law student in your second year, then perhaps cheating should be something you should have a look out for. The notion that me, and my friends wearing gowns and looking harrased and weary after really working hard could have been avoided by copying off the internet makes me a bit sad - and I'd bet the quality of the work is so bad that any decent staff member would spot it a mile off!
