Hi,

I'm new to the world of mixing and mastering and wanted to hear your thoughts on using Fishman Loudbox Mini amp with the settings turned off to mix and master. I understand that studio monitors that don't add anything to the mix are important to mix and master to the best result, and was wondering if the Fishman Loudbox Mini would be able to do that or if I really need to put more money into buying studio monitors...

I also have VIZIO - SmartCast 38" 5.1-Channel Soundbar System with Subwoofer if that's an option...

Thank you for your help!

True, studio monitors don't add anything to the sound. The reason to use them is to get an accurate representation of your mix or master with in goal do the right decisions so it sounds good on any sound system.

A true studio monitor will reproduce frequencies evenly. Imagine if your speaker produce more bass than other systems, it will make you mix with less bass, yes ?
So, when you'll bring your mix somewhere else, it will be missing bass..

Conclusion : yes ! anything not called studio monitors won't do it. You don't have to put 20k on a monitoring system. I use the Yamaha HS8, but some Adams, presonus and many others can do the job..

Of course at the end, you will still need some ear training and getting used to the speakers and maybe adjust the room if some frequencies buildup occur.
But if the speaker are good enough they will reveal more defects in your mixes than any other tools..

I used to use Mordount Short 5 inch HiFi speakers with a Marantz amp as monitor system, but my work improved dramately when I switched to my Presonus Eris 8 monitors....... It really makes a big difference!!!

You don't have to break the bank for the most of monitors like Presonus, KRK, Yamaha, Adam, Mackie just to name a few. One tip: if you are in the market for one or the other, listen to them with a song or songs you know very well, before you part with your money.
