I am 15 years old and have been around musica my whole life, from singing in church choir when I was 5 to playing guitar and piano now. I know that I want to make money off of music when I grow up and recording sounds like a great job where you can be around all kinds of music and new bands. The problem is, I have no idea what to do. I don't know any of the equipment. Is there any site that will go over the basics so I can learn a little background information about recording music?

there is a wealth of knowledge in these forums, so don't underestimate them. i've been snoopin around here for over a year and even though it is purely a hobby to pass the time, i know a heck of a lot more than i did a year ago and could hold my own in a discussion/sale/debate situation. why not try a magazine such as electronic musician. when you get into college, you might even take some related courses. from reading posts here, it seems to me that recording related jobs are a dying breed, so reflect on that as you pursue a possible career.

I hear http://recording.org is pretty alright. All kinds of info in the forum there to be browsed. Another interactive resource is http://homerecording.com/bbs . Do some looking around and google whatever terms you may come across that you don't know.
