I use Sonalksis often. Another 'warming' type that you might look into is Tritone Audio's ValveTone. It's really quite nice.

Yes. Especially since you don't have a choice.

FWIW the UA Fairchild rarely does wrong, and the LA2A is another of my faves.

The best one is the Ultra Pak. Very useful. It would be nice to have 2 cards though, (for the second one you would just have to buy the project pak or course) so you don't have to worry about DSP load. If you mix at 96k it would almost be a necessity.
