hey all, I'm setting my home theater systems back up after dealing w mold and rebuilding the rooms in the basement. this is purely for entertainment purposes no critical listening, other that just double checking how mixes translate, but purely for fun, movies video games, etc.

fwiw the rooms are both 6`8, my bedroom is 12`9(L)x 11`3 (W), and the living room are is 22`(L) x 11`. theres a couple of acoustic panels, nothing serious.

the systems are both 5.1, ones bose the other cambridge soundworks.

anyway, my main question really has to do w how in Rods book the part about setting up the listening position, he recommends setting up the triangle based on the "producers" position which if i remember correctly was 1`4 behind the engineers spot which was roughly 30% back in the room. creating a wider sweet spot.

the manuals ive read on surround have the triangle pointing directly a the listening postition. so i was just wondering if rods recommendation for stereo would happen to pertain to a 5.1 entertainment system, if it matters, or if its preference.

i just ask because i'm wall mounting the speakers, and running the wires behind the walls, to make it nice and neat, w the exception of the living room, which has floor standing front speakers. so i gonna kind have to live w how it turns out, so i just wanna make the most informed decision possible and just enjoy how it turns out.

before i tore everything down the living room setup was based on an equilateral triangle w the front speakers pointing directly at the listening position. and enjoyed it, just looking for opinions on this before i start drilling holes. again, this is only an entertainment system, but obviously as a sound-guy music fan, the better the sound, the more entertainment. I'm just gonna put the sub wherever i think it sounds coolest by ear. thanks!
