I love my ADK Vienna! Almost as much as my AT4047.... :wink:

ADK's Audiophile Series are very good mics, reasonably priced. Quite a variety too.

Second(or third!) the positives on these. ADK has a very good return policy as well.

The variety of the line is a boon to finding just the right mic. The high-end stuff is as good as most high-end mics available today.

Scott Dorsey had an article in "Recording" magazine a couple of years back with a mod for Chinese U87-style mics. The ADK A51 was on the list so now I have a modded one. Sounds better than before and good for the price but not stellar compared to AT 40 series stuff or even a RODE NT2, IMHO.

I read that article too. From the description of the mod, it sounded like it would do this mic some good. Be aware that the A51 is at the bottom of the ADK food chain. If I remember correctly,(dont hold me to it!) the modification wasnt very much money in parts and as the mic can be had for $100 or less this seems to be a very good value. This is not a mic I would recommend for a vocal mic....I have two of em, mine are also modified, though not the same as the Dorsey stuff....suffice to say that theres not very many mics I've heard on a guitar amp that sound much better than these mics I have.

Once you get into the Vienna/Hamburg, TC, Hemi-Heads, That sorta thing, you're looking at mics that compare or surpass most in their price ranges.

Recording magazine also had an article to hod-rod the Oktava 012 mic.
The improvement was nothing short of amazing.
