You're quite right, some audio applications are not happy with AMD chips.
Certainly Cakewalk is one of those, but I can't confirm any others. If it makes no difference to you which you have, I would advise going with Intel just to be on the safe side.

yeah it looks as if intel is the way to go even though those amd chips seem to smoke intel :|

No question AMD can be very good(If you know exactly what you're looking for), but, for me, I'll stick with Intel for my next processor.

I'm rather conservative on my computer purchases. I need stuff to WORK(To make me money reliably), not "smoke" my next door neighbors(Mr. Jones, I believe?) "gaming" machine.

where do you people get your info?

there is nothing that runs on intel that wont run on AMD
software or hardware. audio or video.

and infact 98% runs better on amd. quite a bit better.
the only thing i know of is pro fools HD wont run on DUal Opteron
(which i assume would also apply to dual core AMD)

and this is intentional by Digi. (Intel owns 30% of Avid)

Both Intel and AMD are great processors.

I don't know where that Cakewalk thing came from but it's untrue. I run an AMD 939 system with Sonar 4 with no issues.

The statement about Intel being more stable than AMD also untrue. Actually my AMD's are just as stable if not more than my Intels.

Either processor is fine for a DAW however I would avoid PCI-E for now as it doesn't always play well with audio.

the PCIe video problem does not apply to the new 945 and 955 chipsets. All is well. Actually our X2D Intel PCIe system can run four (4) displays on two PCIe video cards with no impact on audio performance whatsoever!

Yes, you are 100% right some other dealers that only sell Intel systems are lying to customers and that is why we put that page up.

as an audio solution Sheesh do these people not test thier products.? for now i wont post names..

were you and I disagree is on the Intel platform only

we dont dis-agree 100% in that area either.

for the money the Intel solution is hard to beat that is afact and i am selling far more intel DC these days than AMD single or DC.

the only guys i push the AMD DC to are medium to hard core Sampler guys.
now this is where we disagree....

in my tests the AMD will do better lower latency, and yes i have put the 4400 against the 3.2 DC (840) not the Extreem (not about to buy a 1k plus chip that i know i wont sell.)

i have another set of benchmarks to be published once N3.2 is released to the public!

think dual DC!
