Can someone clear this up for me? I'm wondering about the theory and terminology regarding this. I understand if I record live I can get a good groove - it's not that I can't do it. That's not the purpose of my question. Like I said, I'm more interested in the actual terminology and theory...

1) Is "swing" the very thing that "groove" is made of? In other words does swing = groove or are they only semi related or even unrelated...

2) Or is swing just one type of groove? What other ways are there to achieve groove? What types of groove can you describe or illustrate? Do they have names? Can show me examples in popular songs AND define the KIND of groove with terminology/theory?

3) Give me an example in a bar of 8th or 16th notes (like in hi-hats or whatever) in written form/score. What I mean is: I know you can tap out a nice groove on the desk or pads, but can you write it into a score too? Could someone pick up your sheet music and figure out what kind of groove the piece has?

4) Are there any good resources for this information online you could point me to?
