HI.. I am currently using an eMagic/Mackie control unit in my daw system. works flawlessly with Cakewalk Sonar. I'm wanting to expand.
My buddy has one he wants to sale, can I use it with the one I currently have and use it as an expansion mcu? That way I will have 16 channels? The jog wheel on his doesn't work but everything else does.
Thanks for any help

We have the same MCU. It's the older eMagic Mine works flawlessly with Sonar. His works with Sonar and works as well except the jog wheel.
I was just wondering if I bought his if I could just use it or it would work as an expansion to mine.
Thanks for your help

I don't know the answer. You should borrow it and try it. Hook up the midi cables and see whether it gets recognized. I'm fuzzy on Greg's firmware on these but I think the Extenders have markers that slave them to the MCU. But again, it's worth an attempt. That would give you 16 channels of automation etc. For what it's worth, I have yet to find a DAW that won't work with the MCU. They are even useful for running an RME Fireface.
I don't think so. If it is a buddy though go ahead and try it.
I don't think so. If it is a buddy though go ahead and try it. The MCU or MCU Pro is designed to be used with up to three extenders so it is always possible it will work. There are firmware differences in the older units. The current MCU Pro and Xtender Pro has had no revisions to the best of my knowledge other than the very latest have 100mm Alps faders instead of Penny & Guiles.
