Hey guys. This is a demo called "Gone" by my band Furian.

Can you share some tech info on this? How recorded? How mixed? -- some sense of your workflow and process? How you build your mixes? That might be instructive but also an area where others might be able to contribute to your own development. The process is the mystery.

Thought it was great again - still hunger for a bit more regional specific vocal sound. Reminiscent of some of the stuff I've heard from My Chemical Romance - Even a touch of Fallout Boy in there - all good. I like the mix of straight up singing then the screaming stuff --- I think it integrates very well both in the song but the mix. No awkward transitions - very natural Is there a specific Mix style or sound style you are trying to emulate?

a really good mix.... although I find it a bit sssibilant in some spots on the lead vox. If you can't microscopically edit out the harsh S's, then tuck those freq's back a bit (-2 or so @ anywhere between 5k - 9 k, depending) or, run a GOOD de-esser plug ( like Fabfilter) on the lead vox, and I think you're home.

Great performances by the way, and that's where any good mix starts. ;)

Cheers everyone! Wow.. Looks like I might have nailed this one! AT LAST! Hope! Hahaha. I'll definitely look at my s' in the performance as well as De-essing it next time!

Um... My mixing process is like the most disappointing thing ever. I barely do anything to my source tones and the mics I use might shock you.

My beloved desk - Presonus 16.4.2 (I cut a like 2db of "boxy" room noise with the outboard FAT channel on the kick drum/toms).

Drums were - Kick - D112, Snare - SM57, Hi T - Audix D4, Floor Tom - D112, OH - Matched pair of Rode NT5s, AT2020 on the ground 4 ft in front of the kick placed low for "room/thud". Needless to say.. Extremely basic. There's nothing special on the drums, just EQ and compression on kick/snare/overheads. No parallel compression actually...

Guitars were an SM57 in front of a Bugera 6260 running into a Line6 cab of all things. High passed at 120, cutoff at 12k

Bass was a direct signal which I messed around with using JPBass and amplitube and some compression.

Vocals were just me pretending I can sing into an SM7b with compression bused off to a plate verb and a 1/4 beat groove delay and then mixed with the dry signal as per usual.

I am very very into source tone and not doing much mixing. Most things I do will be just EQ'd and vocal verbed for the most part. The intro was a mid sweep/phaser on the drum channels as I'm sure you've all guessed.

If there's any specific tech info you want about it then feel free to quiz me guys but I tend to just try and get the performance and arrangement to be as solid as possible. Where it does get slightly interesting in this one is there's an AMAZING tape plugin called "Eddie Kramer Tape".. Some warmth was added with this before the usual mastering gumph. If you didn't check that plugin out then I urge you to get it in your life. It's unbelievable. Youtube it.

Unfortunately dogs, this was recorded a while ago so I couldn't cater to more regional english tones!! I can only apologise for that one and say I will make it a focus in future music.

Thanks so much for the positivity in the replies guys. Very encouraging indeed. Maybe I can do this whole engineer thing. Haha! :) I'm definitely a songwriter by nature but if I can do both then.. well.. great!

Stylistically, we're not trying to emulate anything in the arrangement or the mix. It's just sort of what comes out and there's a complete disregard for influence other than what happens subliminally.

I think the best thing I personally did for this mix was pick good band members haha!

Yea, Voice - Right now, I'm doing more old-school material, but I will be posting more modern (or what I think is, anyway) Rock/Metal tracks, and I would like your help via your reviews and plug-in/ampsim ideas. Postings coming soon.
I also apologies to you, voice, for thinking that you were using this sight just for band promotion, now that I see that you have contributed this forum via, your reviews and suggestions.

Aside from what Voiceofallanger mentioned about source, source and more source!,
Check his mixes in mono, that aught to be a great start to mixing as good as this.
