I re-discovered this song from the Hazel O'Connor Punk movie from the 80s - I hate punk bathed forgotten this song. So with the social-isolating we're doing, it became the morning project - I never, ever practice but figured I good manage this one. What I'd forgotten totally was that the second half of the song is continual playing and THAT was a killer - so I kind of leapfrogged between two camera positions for the sax - so I could play every other bit, because my lungs clearly are too old!

Loads of mistakes if you look for them, but it is what it is - and it's a great sad song!

Not that talented - even worse, I'd forgotten two things. One. How much wind you need, that after this corona thing, I don't seem to have and two. I really had to practice, which I've always been allergic too! There are two cameras, because I couldn't play the entire second half without running out of breath - so two takes, flip-flopping between them. I came across the song, and it was one of those ear-wig things, hummed it in my sleep, so thought I'd give it a go. Filled up a day and a half of social isolation at the very least!

Nice bass - sounds killer. I gotta try to film myself playing now - very inspiring and fun to see and to hear that sax too. I love seeing people play on multiple instruments - even if they are rusty (and what's rusty really beyond patina?), you can see how the innate musicality find expression across the spectrum. I only wish I could play brass or woodwinds (beyond the recorder).

Ha! The only instruments I've not been able to deal with are brass - I cannot stand the tickling ants crawling across my lips feeling - tried trumpet and trombone and failed. Sold the Trombone but kept the trumpet. Bought on ebay for silly money from a UK dealer - returned B stock item, some chips in lacquer. Missed the bit where it said GREEN lacquer finish.

My next song is going to be George Michael's Careless Whisper - I found his isolated vocals in decent quality on the net, so I've set myself the job of recording the rest of the stuff - and I noticed there are a couple of brass stabs - 3, maybe 4 note chords, so I've got 12 notes to play - 4 on each note, so I'm sure I can manage that, if I can get the timing right.

I'm thinking if this goes OK, then maybe Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street and/or Billy Joel's Just the way you are? Maybe Lily is Here, but that's going to mean considerable practice. I'm coming out of this better than I went in.

Lots of us play, not just record - it's good fun doing this, so if anybody else wants to join in - please do. Any genre, andy song, and no need for mega-polish - just something achieved.
