I hope I'm in the right forum for this...
I'm recording an acoustic drum kit into Samplitude V8 via a MOTU 2408 MKII.
I want to add-to/replace recorded drum sounds with samples like I hear about everyone else doing who records rock/metal drums.
What do I need to buy. triggers? software? sampler?
I have no clue. Help..please!

D4 or DM-Pro
there are other trigger units out there
for Protools there is SoundReplacer
there are many other drum software pckages out there
try a search here and you will find many threads on the subject
one is current right now
try the drum and midi forum down a bit lower on the main list
Don’t know about Samplitude, I process in Sound Forge. It works.
Don’t know about Samplitude, I process in Sound Forge. It works. Sometimes processed hits need additional editation (split, nudge) for ultimate aligns with original track. Very often original track need preparation (i.e. gate, normalization) to clean things up for better triggering.
Good collection of multi dynamic drum samples is a must have.
Great results when mixed with overs and room mics (original take).
Not so good for fast 16 or dragging on snare.

Alesis used to make a unit which I believe is still available I think it was the "M4"? I also read recently that IK multimedia makes a software version that allows one to replace recorded drum tracks automatically. Of course nothing is perfect which you will soon find out.
