Actually after looking at it again it looks to be one of the more chiseled-looking Neumann mics. Could always be a knockoff though, a lot of mics could be hidden under that silhouette.

I was also going to guess TLM-103.

It's not a weird question this guy has great vocals and I wanted to know what kind of mic that was. I thought it was a Neumann

If you really like the vocals then you should try to copy the technique, both in the tracking and mixing, IMHO.

Could save you some $$$, and still sound almost as good.

Yeah, just don't copy the technique of blowing billows of smoke on an expensive microphone. Not a good idea.

If he has a great vocals it's not because of the mic. I can pick up a POS student French horn and play a Mahler concert and still sound good. That doesn't mean that Parot is a decent instrument. By the same token, once the engineer has the tracks all bets are off as to what he sounded like originally.

The TLM103 is a great mic but so is a Shure 58. If the engineer knows what s/he is doing then either will produce fabulous results.

While I agree with most of what is said above, it's still rational to start looking at mics that were used on recordings you like. On the other hand, its not good to presume that mics displayed in artfully staged photographs were actually used in the recording. You can bet the mic in the photo is the coolest looking mic available. Can't assume much more.

he really uses that mic they have video of it. I know he uses Pro Tools too and has a delay reverb and something called voxout ? if anyone knows what that is
