The mics don't sound at all bad to my ears... I'm not hearing anything that makes me "wince"; I've certainly worked with worse.
Then again, you have a very nice-sounding and well-tuned kit, and you are a good player, and all that makes a HUGE difference as well.

If I'm being really picky, I'm hearing what may be some sympathetic low end resonance in your room, but a bit more treatment would take care of that.

The only thing that would concern me with the mics is the punishment they may face in frequent live situations, with those plastic sections being the weakest link, but as long as you're careful, you'd be okay.
They're sure no worse than the funky, fragile mounts used for Senny 421's. ;)

I'd say that these mics certainly sound usable for studio work, and if you feed them into nice pre's, I think you'd get some really nice-sounding drum tracks.

I'd like to hear how those snare/tom mics would sound on a tube guitar amp.

I have Neumann tlm 49s.. Km 184s..

Akg 214s for Tom's. 57 for snare etc..

I just wanted to see what you can do with a 150 dollar mic pack.

I'll be using them as extra mics recording live gigs..

They don't make recording easy, that's for sure.. You have to do a lot of things to make them useful. Like checking the phase and lots of equipment and compression but they can be used if on budget and you have a good source.

I thought that they would be way worse..

Turned out to be a very cheap way of getting some utility mics. Cheaper than used 57s.. Cheaper than anything I could find..

Personnally I think the bassdrum is sounding narrow and missing low end.. either the tuning or mic placement or mic of course...
Did you make any raw recording without any processing (mic + Preamp) ? that would be more revealing to me...

The first video has some non mixing in it.. there's an as is.. which has mics out of phase... then mics in phase... then with a mix. that video also shows the mic placement using the mic clips that come with the mic pack.. which is very far away from the shells..

This whole mics out of phase thing has me wanting to test all my gear as I have custom made preamps and cables that attach to the A/D
made from a store from a 50 foot cable and neutrik ends.. All it takes is the tech to have a bad day and you could have some cables that are out..

I have a cable tester.. how would you guys test preamps and microphones for phase.. I'm assuming my speakers and speaker cables are fine as I think I'd really hear if something was out.. I guess all you can do is compare it to something you know is fine.. I guess the only way to test that is to check the pins and wiring on the preamp as I don't know of anyway to test them with a cable tester.. Then use that control to test everything else..

Has anyone had any issues in the past and developed a method of checking?
