The meaning of "cheap" is directly proportional to the amount of money YOU have...which my be much more than most people have :)

I think, if you have the time, your best bet would be to buy some Canare cable and Neutrik ends and make your own. Or, find a used sale of PRO cables...or take your chances with cheap cables sold in mega stores like guitar center, etc...

It all depends of how critical an application it is and what your expectations are.

There was a time when you could get like 20 20' mic cables for $20 :shock: on musiciansfriend.

If I were you I'd take DIGIT's suggestion of buying cable and connectors and making them yourself. If you don't want to do that, look in Buy It Now eBay stores. Get some Whirlwind cables with the switchcraft connectors. Not half as good as Whirlwinds MK4 series, but they will do the trick.

Ideally you should spend the most money on cables that carry the lowest level signal over the longest runs. So 20' (or longer) mic cables should be about the most expensive cables in many studios. If you can come up with the money, remember the old saying, "buy once, cry once."

With that said, I have to admit that I have a batch of those cheapo cables from ebay that I bought for some live sound applications where equipment tended to wander off. They work, haven't given me more problems than cables that cost three times as much, and the low priced whirlwinds (mentioned above) have a pretty nice feel to them.

Klotz MC 5000 - afordable but good. Of course Neutrik xlr.

your best bet is to have someone teach you how to make your own cables. The amount of money it costs to get the supplies for a canarie, nuetrik cable, you can go buy a cable at guitar center that absolutely sucks. for twenty bucks or less you can build a twentyfoot XLR cable from the top of the line parts and if you do it right have a much much lower impedance than any cable you can buy that is premaufactured by machine.
