these questions a subjective. What one guy likes and uses may not be right for you. I generally don't like active monitors. I like to pick and choose my amps to get the sound i'm looking for. And depending on the room, preference and monitors, that can change what you need. listening to a pair will tell you if they are better than what you have, but listen to many other options too, better may not be good enough. If you are going to lay down the $$$, don't just get a little better, buy as much as you can afford.

converters are the same, depends on what you need and the gear in your chain. I have a couple of options to pick from depending on what I'm looking to accomplish. sometimes I want color and will reach for the apogee's, sometimes I don't. you do want a good clean transparent converter for monitoring. for the other stuff, you may find that one is more to your liking than the other.

Among your converter boxes, do you have any mytek96, that one who also acts like a master clock?

i've used the mytek's and they are great converters. I think all of the top converters sound great. some different than others but all are really good. I think some suit different chains better than others but that's also subjective. I think all of the bigger converts allow it to be a master clock or a slave clock.
