I was recently approached by a church choir that would like to record a few songs on location. I have essentially three room choices: The first being a massive octagon shaped room with incredibly high ceilings (carpeted floors). The second is a smaller room with about a 20 ft. ceiling (carpeted floors). The final room also has high ceilings, but the length of the room is substantially greater than its width (tile floors).
The next dilemma I am facing is the proper mic placement that will give me a fairly even balance. I have a limited number of mics and pre's, so the less I have to rent or borrow the better. There are about thirty members in the choir. I was hoping to achieve greatness with only four well placed condenser mics... let me know what you think.
