If you talking about the older powder blue stuff from the 1980's (414 mono and 428 stereo I think was the models) keep looking. Robert Orban designed and made many audio processors (comp, eq, reverb, de-esser, stereo simulator) and it was his eq's that were his best work and the Para-Graphic eq that was the most popular. He sold his name and company but still works for Orban who now caters mostly to the broadcast market. He is one of the fore fathers of digial multi-band compression processors that have been used in radio and tv braodcasting many years before it was used it for music production but his older powder blue comps were not, and still are not considered to be anything really special. You may still find it that you like it and that it can still be a useful tool for you, just don't get your hopes up that this has a sought after vintage tone like some other older comps do.

I agree with Gaff completely.However if its the Orban Parasound and its dirt cheap it may be worth your time.Its not a high-end classic by any means but you'll find something to use it on.If you're simply looking for an older cheap compressor that has a decent sound then look to the Symetrix stuff....model 525 is a good one.

I haven't used the compressors (ie. 414, 424)myself. But I have made use of a stereo limiter model 418. Which is in my opinion, "the best limiter, no one has used". The eq's are also some good stuff. But that is only one man's opinion.
