I'm working on a project where I sing all the background vocal harmonies, but I want it to sound like 3 or 4 different people, not all me. I've tried some tricks - singing in goofy voices and at different angles and distances from the mic, but it's just not happening. So here's my question:
Anyone know of a FREE VST plugin that will change the character of my voice slightly to get the effect I want? Something like Voice Tweaker.
Thanks.

OK, thanks guys for your responses. But I guess I wasn't clear enough about what I wanted. My fault.
I don't need a plug to GENERATE harmonies; I am capable of singing the parts no problem. What I'm after is something that will tweak the FORMNANT a tiny bit without affecting the pitch. So maybe on the high harmony I could make it sound a little bit more feminine and the low harmony a bit more masculine, for lack of better terms. I would totally leave the middle harmony alone, thereby creating the illusion of three different people singing, instead of one guy doing all the parts.
If all else fails I'll go old-school and do a little digital version of VSOing. Time consuming, but it works.
Thanks again,
Bob

Did you actually do the search? Or did you just assume that this wasn't what you wanted? Because the fourth or fifth plugin down and the only one I opened does exactly what you are asking alters a line to be femine or more masculine, thickens or thins, delays, etc. adding one voice or up to 32, it does it in unison (which is exactly the same range as you sang) tweaked or adds it as a harmony if you want. While this particular one may not be exactly the one you are looking for aren't these the features you are looking for?

jg,
If you are talking about Clone Ensemble (fifth one down) I actally have that! SOMEWHERE... my old comp died a horrible death (mobo) some time back and I forgot I had that... I mostly used it for big choruses of people but now that you mention it, I think you are right; you CAN set it to unison and tweak feminine/masculine. I'm gonna have to go thru the stacks and stacks of cd-rs and see if I can locate it.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi
Maybe you could try the new versions of Melodyne or Waves Bundle that includes Pitch shifter it has features that can change the formanant and pitch is the same.

I have known also 1 plugin from Steinberg and I think its Voice Changer. Its an old plugin tho...but I think it is still available...under VST
