New computer that Vision DAW is building for me to run SONAR 8. I've heard so many conflicting (and assertive) opinions about which OS I should be using, I am confused. Thoughts, opinions, advice please?
8-Core Nehalem Xeon Server-Class Workstation
Custom 4U Rackmount Chassis w/10 Removeable Drive Bays
Dual Intel QUAD-Core Xeon X5570 - 2.93GHz, 8MB Cache, 6.4 GT/s Processors
Custom Nehalem Xeon Cooling
48GB DDR3 1333MHz Registered ECC Server Memory Modules
Adaptec 4-Port PIC-Express SATA Controller
20x DVD+/-RW Double Layer Optical Drive
Front Panel USB Access
Intergrated Firewire (1394a) Interface
Integrated DUAL Gigabit Ethernet Adapters
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, 896MB, PCI-Express, Dual-DVI Video Card
Using MOTU Midi Express x 2 (USB) for midi and MOTU 2408mkIII x 3 for audio.
We're still working out the hard drive configuration. It will be some combination of 2TB 7,200 RPM drives for storage and 300GB 10,000 RPM drives in a raid array for samples/streaming.

Correction: XP 32 bit cannot address more than 3gig of ram for programs. Neither can Win7 32 bit.
A 64 bit OS whether XP, Vista, or Win 7 can address more ram than 4 gig.
XP Pro or Windows 7 Ultimate. Vista will work but 7 is better.
