I use Lavry and Mytek, what do you use or what is your dream DAC? I've heard others like DCS and Prismsound, but have found Lavry and mytek to provide me with my best results. Just curious what others think.

Michael, Its alright my friend, you didn't know any better.

I'm sure one of the administrators of this site can wipe the other three posts since only one really needs to be here.

I'm sure your excited and interested in hearing what other professionals are using for DAC's.

My simple opinion:

I'm just another artist/musician on a very tight budget. I prefer to spend my money on musical instruments and analog gear so DAC's are somewhat important to me, just not nearly as important as the instrument and the mixdown itself.

I use presonus's firestudio, and although I have encountered much frustration with the firmware the overall performance and sound is very good for the money.

A good DAC for a musician who wants quality on a budget. There are a bunch of them out now, motu, apogee, lexicon, m-audio. ect...

But as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I think the RME FF800 would be a better choice for bigger budget.

Now as far as dream DAC's go, I would like that new Tascam recorder:
Tascam DV-RA1000HD

Maybe in a few years when I can afford a used one?

Well...in the spirit of forgiveness...I'll post a reply.

While I tend to find that DACs are probably the least important step in the signal chain (unless there's a lot of digital to analog to digital conversion going on), I would personally lean towards the DA in the Mytek box as a "best all around."
The Prism is a GREAT sounding converter, but does have its own sound. The Lavry is pure as can be...but...well...but.
For monitoring, I'm simply in love with the sound from Dangerous Audio's D-Box. The DA isn't the world's greatest, but it's really damn nice, especially since it's kind of a freebie considering everything else you get!

I did own a Benchmark and found it to be nice, but it was just nice....for that price, I'd hope for more than nice.

Cheers-
J.

Love our spam hounds!

No worries.

I have the Lavry Blacks sitting here but haven't had a chance to test them in my new studio yet. I popped both the AD and pre into my old PT mix system , both sounding pretty nice compared to the mix hardware.
For my new studio I'm using a FF800 so I'm not sure if the Blacks will even be useful now. ( possibly their DA to some mastering monitors). I'm pretty sure the converters are a lot better on the Lavry than the RME FF800.

I'd love to hear from anyone else using Lavry Blacks.
