As ATI is the parent company to API (I know this means little, yet it does mean something) - I have been checking out this preamp for my multi-channel needs for both live and studio needs

nice format, mixer and limters would be really handy - small, etc etc - heard great reviews, yet havent heard and cant find one around here to try.

anyone have any experience with or could describe them at all?

I'm having a hard time choosing between one of these and a 3124 for the same price range

hoping to find someone with one -

Hi,
I have the ATI 8MX2 as well as the API 3124m. They are both good quality units. They actually sound fairly similar on some sources at moderate gain settings, both very clear and full range. The API seems a tiny bit rounder and has a more pleasant "crunch" at the extreme upper end of its gain range than the ATI. The ATI is extremely well designed for portable DA88/78/98 type remote work which is my primary use for it. My only gripe is the slightly noisy fan which ultimately causes me to reach for the API's more often in the studio control room setting. The mixer features on both are very useful also. Both are quality units, its just a matter of which has the features you require. If possible try them both before choosing either one.
