i'm thinking about economical ways to alter/upgrade/expand the pallete of my gear set-up.
i have a Manley mic preamp and was thinking of several options.

the one that i'm unsure of is this:

can i run my Manley Mic Pre into a TAB/Funkenwerks Direct box?
one reason is to get that "sound" if desired. the other would be to get more signal boost for things like ribbon mics.
also, if desired, i could run the Manley at a lower settings, thus less noise.
it seems to be a brilliant solution/option.

will this work?
am i an idiot?

I usually do it the other way around. I run the output of my Avalon u5's into my UA pre's hi-z inputs.

EDIT: Oh yeah...sorry, for ribbon mics. Mics can't go into DI. Gotcha. Anyway, never tried running the signal from the pre into the Di. Theoretically it should work. As long as the impedance is matched and you're careful with those ribbons!

I 've tried Guitar and bass this way just into the DI

Yeah..you should check it out! I often times run keyboards (Or Rhodes piano) into the u5's, and then run the output cables from the rear of the u5's into either my patchbay or into the front inputs of my universal audio 2108 pre (I leave a blank space above them to run the cables and give them some breathingroom). This works really well if I want to get a little more character, but if I just want the u5 sound, I run it into the patch straight into my RME interface. To be honest though, I usually just leave them plugged into the 2108 cause it sounds so good.
