BYOC. Build your own Clone?
I heard it mentioned on a guitar forum and I checked it out. It looks really freaking cool, definitely for those of us that love to tinker with things. There is a product of theirs called the 'Confidence Booster' which basically seems like a simple clean boost circuit. For only $15! I ordered two of them so one of them will run stock and one I will mod and add to and get a feel for the circuit and hopefully use this as a launchpad to develop some of the ideas that I have. Seems terribly interesting, I'd love to hear if other people have experience with the site or if any advice could be thrown my way it would be greatly appreciated!

If their stuff is as good as my guitarist friends are saying it is (they're tone snobs like me) then I'll have to get the analog delay and opto-compressor pedals as well. I heard the Opto-comp today in a youtube clip and I've never before wet myself over a compressor... but it was so worth it. I still can't get over the price they charge for it, and it comes with a metal encasement and everything? Jeez, they must be at a loss.
Which brings up the next issue. With the confidence boost I'm going to need an encasement with holes for gain/volume knobs and a bypass switch. I could probably figure out where in the circuit to add the pots, but I'm not sure where to find a good encasement that's going to shield from external noise and all that.

The aluminum Hammond project boxes Link suggests are perfect for what you're doing. You'll recognize right away that they're exactly the same as the enclosures used by a lot of the major pedal manufacturers. Bud boxes would do nicely too and typically cost a shade less.
Mouser, Newark, Digikey, MCM will all be good sources for project boxes, pots, chips, caps, and resistors for you down the road.
Parts Express has a fair selection of the most common Hammond boxes, but they're not as into the semi-conductors as the others.
The more popular sized boxes themselves can be found at SamAsh or on Amazon too.
In any case, drilling the holes will be all on you. Aluminum is soft and easy to drill, so nice sharp drill bits are all you'll really need. A drill-press would be ideal, but not crucial. A center punch would be useful, but not absolutely necessary if your bits are sharp. A tapered reamer is also a good way to size critical holes perfectly - by drilling a size small and reaming a little at a time until it's perfect. (don't forget it's tapered, so you have to flip the work over if you don't want the hole to be flared)

I see those Hammond project boxes on Mouser but I'm not so sure that I am daring enough to drill all those holes myself. I'd much rather keep it a straight build project and just assemble. And mod of course. Lots of modding. I've actually come across this site and while they're not Hammond boxes they do offer to paint it for you free of charge. I was going to paint it Orange anyway, and now I don't have to haha. Think the quality would be comparable to a Hammond box?
