don't use the overhead tracks much/at all.

can also try a variety of thicknesses of plastic muffling rings, and/or taking off the resonant heads.

the practice space kit i use sometimes has black hydrolic heads on the toms = instant total dead slap - hardly even have to tune them.

i like open drums but there is definetly a percussive power to deadened drums.

It's only one song I want this sound for. I prefer open drums as well. They'll come in on the chorus.
