I would like to know how I should work an Apogee Mini-Me into my current set up. I'm currently running an 896 via fire wire into a dual gig G4. I'm running DP3.11, which I'm happy with. Right now my set up is that simple. I'm not doing anything with midi or any third party plugs-ins. I would like to run my main output off my Mini-Me instead of the 896, but I still want to be able to use the 896 to do drum tracks. Could I run from the Mini-Me AES/EBU out to the 896 AES/EBU in? Would I run into word clock problems? Should (or could) I just run the Mini-Me simply as an additional input?
I know you guys will be a great help.

Sorry about the double post...
I asked the same question on unicornation.com and this was the response I got. Who is right?
"The mini-me was designed for field recording and it has a USB option on it so that you can go direct into your system (usually a laptop). You could run the AES out of the mini-me into the AES in but yes you would run into clocking problems.
Your best bet is to get the Rosetta 800 and use that along with the 896. You could record up to 8 channel at 44.1khz or 48khz by sending the Rosetta's signals into the 896 via lightpipe. You would also use the Rosetta as the master clock source and slave the 896 to the Rosetta using a word clock bnc cable. The Rosetta 800 sounds better (IMHO) at 44.1khz than the 896 does at higher resolution (and the clock blows the 896 away)."

the aes/ebu is a better solution as it allows for higher sample rates than the usb option if I'm not mistaken.
Either way you go you are going to have to synch the two to the same clock if you are going to use them simultaneously. As Mark suggested the mini-me probably has a better clock in which case it will improve the sound of the converters in the MOTU by slaving the MOTU to the Mini-me.

The AES solution sounds good. Just pay attention to the clock settings. It sounds like you're on OS9, so here's what you do. Set the 896 to read from an external clock (since the mini me presumably has a better clock. You should be set.
and please just post your question once, in one location.
Hope this helps.
