Hi
I have been using a set of JBL 4208's for monitoring. I've read a few less than flattering things about 4208s but I've never used anything else.
Do other members have any advise opinions on 4208s and whether it would be worthwhile changing them. Unfortunately I would only be able to spend up to about $400 on a new set... any advice
:?

Thanks Cucco
I've never used a forum B4 so I hope this gets back to you.
My Mixes tend to sound messy in the high end with way too much from 4-5k upwards and especially in the 10k to 15k area when replayed elsewhere.
If there no real issues with the JBLs maybe I need to remove some absorbtion or something. Thank you very much for your time and thoughts

i'm with jer on this one... doubtful that you'll find much real improvement with a $400 speaker... mostlikely just trading for other problems... if you doubt your room treatments the guys over on the acoustics forum will fix you up... and that's likely to be more your problem anyhow...

I agree,,,the room is so damm important,do what ever it takes to fix the room as best you can, take the time to do some research.
Do the best you can with the monitors that you have after youve fixed the room,,,save your money, take a loan out if you have to,and buy real monitor speakers,I personal like the JBL 4410a,you also need a good amp,so be prepaired to spend some cash,,,,I hate to be so "honest?" but you will save money in the long run.
Welcome pwm! The real question is, do you like the monitors? C
Welcome pwm!
The real question is, do you like the monitors? Can you get a good mix from them?
If yes, keep them and stay delighted. You certainly aren't going to find quality monitors at that $400 price range.
If you don't like them, identify what it is you don't like about them and use that as a search criteria for new monitors.
Personally, I'm a big fan of JBL monitors (despite some VERY serious issues that I recently had with a new pair of JBLs). They're delightfully ruthless.
Don't worry about other peoples' opinions. As they say -
Opinions are like a$$-holes - every body has one and most of them stink.
Cheers -
