I use to go to logic classes at the apple store and the guy who taught the class had a record button plugin and I'm trying to remember what it was. It was just a big button that was on the screen and when you hit record it recorded whatever sounds that were coming out of your computer. So you could sample songs that were streaming and it would save it as an mp3 in a folder. Anyone know what this is called or where to buy it?

I use a mac program called Audio Hijack Pro which does what you are describing. It doesn't have any "big record button", but you can use hotkeys to activate it.
You can demo it, and buy it online at their site:

No idea, but you can get a VST plugin called "TapeIt" that records to WAV (mono/stereo, 8-32 bits) from it's location in your track. It even provides a 2-channel peak meter with clip indicator for convenience.
