From soundscape site:

mixpander has up to 32 channels of Super Low Latency (SLL) MME (wave), ASIO-2 and GSIF (native multi-channel Gigasampler/Gigastudio) drivers, which are full duplex, multi-client and respond down to 1.5mS for the lowest latency available for any PCI card. This means that mixpander can accommodate any host based software synthesizers (eg. Seer Systems SurReal/Reality, Native Instruments Generator, Bitheadz Unity1, Propellerheads Rebirth etc.), software samplers like Nemesys Gigasampler/Gigastudio, plus output from any audio sequencer package at the same time. The SLL technology allows the synths and samplers to respond as
fast as hardware units, even when recording or playing 32 tracks or more from the Soundscape DAW. These PC audio channels are routed directly into the real-time mixer running on the mixpander DSPs and are combined with tracks from R.Ed or SSHDR1-Plus, so providing the ultimate integration of DSP based mixing and audio recording, with native PC based audio processing, software synthesis, sampling and MIDI sequencing.

Than means that i can record this tracks thru Asio Drivers to my R.ED?, or just mix them with my R.ED tracks?

Hi!
The R.Ed. has 32 tracks on it's own. If I understand this correctly, you can have 30 R.Ed. tracks and 32 audiostreamed tracks from the computer. These computer-tracks can be from softsynths, gigasampler and audio-tracks from a sequencer at the same time (multiclient). All 62 tracks are mixed in the Soundscape-mixer, and you can create a stereo-mixdown on to the R.Ed.
If you use external storage for mixdown, you can, of course, use all 64 tracks (32 R.Ed. + 32 computer).

Regards,
Fredrik.

Hi..

If I am able to "Stream" audio from the computer to R.ED outputs in real time(mixing). Why can I "stream" that audio to a track input? provided that I have a extra track. ofcorse.. or why I can send a track, previously recorded on R.ED via ASIO to a Audio Sequencer in my computer??

Cheers

Greetings,
Of course you should be able to "stream" audio from the computer to record it on to the R.Ed. It's just a matter of arming the track/mixer channel that it goes on to, and press "Rec". Once it's in the Soundscape mixer it's "recordable", just like any other sound-source. Obviously, as you stated, you'll have to have a "free" track. If you don't have a free track the "take" (audio-file) that is currently connected to the track you're recording on to, will be muted.
(Dead Link Removed)
But, again logically, the Mixpander has an ASIO-2 driver (full duplex), and shouldn't have a problem with addressing the inputs of a sequencer. Or the sequencer addressing the Mixpander ASIO-driver... or....
While awaiting the arrival of my Mixpander, I use the Soundscape Mixtreme when I want to route R.Ed. tracks to the computer. The Mixtreme is a 16-channel PCI-card with one Motorola DSP onboard. The Mixtreme has it's own mixer window, and "talks" to the inputs of my sequencer or audio-editing software. The R.Ed connects to the Mixtreme through TDIF. I also use the Mixtreme to record GigaSampler on to the R.Ed.

The way I see it is: When I get my Mixpander I'll be able to play 30 (or 32) tracks from the R.Ed., 32 additional audio-tracks from the computer (through Mixpander) and 16 tracks of GigaSampler (through Mixtreme). Or however I want to distribute/use the additional tracks from the computer. All these tracks are mixed in the Soundscape mixer (with enormous mixing power, thanks to the Mixpander) for a stereo-mixdown to the R.Ed. Glorious!

Best wishes,
Fredrik.

It sounds like a Great system you are putting together there.. I'm pretty much sold. as soon I can scratch a few thousand dollars together I'm buying R.Ed+Mixpander..But again there are still a few points that I would like to be aware off before committing myself.

My main thing with streaming from the computer to R.eds is that I have a large gigasampler library. but I don't have the horsepower to stream all my giga tracks at one time without "artifacts". Plus I have all my home stuff done with Logic audio And Cubase.

And you may ask why is this guy so picky.. asking about latency and total fader resolution..well I work with a lot of hi end audio gear.. and software.. and belive me you know the difference. no way you can compare PT with cubase. for audio I mean..or Sonic with wavelab. but the simple fact that there is a lot of people comparing R.ED with ProTools is something for thought..
and I just what to get a little deeper than that.

Cheers

Hi all
Unfortunately the speed of 1.5ms described on Mixpanders press release is only reached if you are using Windows NT or 2000 and at this time you can only stream 16 channels but 32 will be avelaible on later SW release.

I didn't know that.... Then again, Soundscape usually is very quick and consistent with their FREE updates.
And Caiv: What kind of gsif-driver (soundcard) do you have now? You know, even if you get a very low latency with GigaSampler, you still have to have enormous amounts of RAM, and a very fast processor. The more power on your computer, the more Giga-tracks. And with SLL you'll get all those tracks on time on to the R.ed.

I use Logic too. Have you read the thread about Emagic and Soundscape? It seems like the two are gonna shake hands. The perfect Audio/Midi solution?

Best wishes,
Fredrik.

Hi..

I have Pulsar I. wich is multiclient as well.
I like creamware products. aldo the drivers for other software is quind of hard on the PCI Bus, probably cuzz you have 4 DSP chips in it..

The EASI thing was such a joke.. any how.. i have a PIII 550 Mg with 250 of RAM. two HD. Dual Boot, I can play 24 TRKs without plug in's just fine.. But i tell you what!!
Im sick of the infinete Upgradeability of a computer. i just dont have the TIME or money to deal with a New computer every year...when i bought this Machine it was the fastest computer out there.. now is only half the speed of the fastest computer available..
And not to mention native software.. i have learn more about computers than i would have like to just so i can record a few tracks.

I like DAW's but. the native ones are not at the par with what a PRO-DAW needs to be. Wich brings me to R.ED.

Anyway sorry about bragin' about this stuff.

Cheers

No need to apologize...
I totally agree with you.
And a system like R.Ed. is one solution to these troubles. If you need reliability and stability to 100%, the host-based (native) systems aren't giving it to you at the moment.
About upgrading computers. It's a really expensive adventure if you're at the front end of technology. I try to stay at least one year "behind". That way I can almost double my computer-power once in a while for very little money. I usually just upgrade the motherboard and processor. And buy more RAM, of course.
This only affects the GigaStudio at the moment. I still have the heart of my system up and running. All days of the week, every hour of the day, every......you get it.

I've heard both good and bad things about the Pulsar. I think they had some serious problems to begin with, but they're probably sorted out now. A colleague of mine has it on a Mac, and it works fine now.

If you find it hard to run many tracks at the same time on your GigaSampler, remember this: It eats computers for breakfast!

Best of luck to you,
Fredrik.

I'm not sure if you can do it the other way around with the Mixpander. Logically it should be possible, but I don't own a mixpander (yet), so I have no way of trying or verifying this. We'll have to wait for Joels clarification...
But, again logically, the Mixpander has an ASIO-2 driver (full duplex), and shouldn't have a problem with addressing the inputs of a sequencer. Or the sequencer addressing the Mixpander ASIO-driver... or....

VERY WELL SAID FREDRIK

The Mixpander is duplex, goes both ways mate
